NZCIS Athletes Village & Amenities

As part of the ongoing transformation of the NZ Campus of Innovation and Sport (NZCIS) in Upper Hutt, this project was designed to create a world-class accommodation environment capable of supporting elite athletes from New Zealand and around the globe. The brief required a balance of comfort, functionality, accessibility, and performance, delivering a facility that could meet the diverse needs of athletes, teams, coaches, and sporting organisations throughout the year.

Engaged under a full design and build contract, Homestead worked closely with the project stakeholders to bring this vision to life, delivering 50 high-quality short-stay apartments across seven accommodation blocks, together with a dedicated amenities hub at the heart of the village. The self-contained apartments provide modern, flexible living spaces suited to both short and extended stays, while selected units were specifically designed to support accessibility requirements and specialised hypoxic training programmes.

Central to the development is the shared amenities building, which serves as a focal point for connection, collaboration, and recovery. Featuring a commercial kitchen, dining facilities, meeting spaces, and outdoor recreation areas, the hub has been designed to foster a strong sense of community while supporting the day-to-day needs of athletes and support staff.

The completed Athletes Village represents a significant investment in New Zealand's high-performance sporting infrastructure. Combining durable construction, thoughtful design, and a campus-focused approach, the facility provides an environment where athletes can live, train, recover, and perform at their highest level. The result is a modern, future-focused accommodation precinct that reinforces NZCIS's position as one of the country's leading destinations for elite sport, innovation, and athlete development.
