The Littel Ōtaki Motel was developed to challenge the traditional motel model, combining contemporary design, smart technology, and operational efficiency to create a modern accommodation experience. Built on the former Ōtaki Railway Bowling Club site, the project delivers a high-quality, low-overhead hospitality offering without compromising guest comfort or visual appeal.
Homestead was engaged to deliver the 10-unit motel, comprising a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom accommodation options. Designed to maximise site efficiency and long-term performance, the development provides flexible accommodation suited to business travellers, contractors, families, and visitors to the region.
A key innovation of the project is its fully automated operating model, utilising a custom digital booking and access system that removes the need for on-site management. This streamlined approach enhances the guest experience while reducing operational costs and improving efficiency for the owners.
Precast concrete exterior panels were selected for their durability, low maintenance requirements, and architectural impact, with bold debossed colour treatments creating a distinctive identity and strong street presence. Sustainability was also considered through the integration of solar water heating and future-ready infrastructure provisions.
Recognised with the ADNZ Regional Award for Commercial Architecture Wellington/Wairarapa Resene Colour in Design Award, the completed development demonstrates how thoughtful design, quality construction, and innovative technology can come together to create as marter, more efficient accommodation solution.
