Discover a
Unique Country Heritage Experience
Midway between Christchurch and Queenstown and
only 35 minutes inland from Historic Oamaru.

Landmarked by its giant redwood tree, in gentle rolling limestone country, Tokarahi Homestead was built in 1878 by wool baron Alexander McMaster.

When his son married Annie Reid from the neighbouring estate, the impressive front entrance hall and reception rooms were added as a wedding present.

Colonial tradition in the finest sense of the word, combined with exceptional hospitality, service and every amenity for the discerning traveller are the hallmarks of Tokarahi Homestead.

This historic limestone homestead offers superior lodge accommodation and fine dining to the visitor travelling between the major tourists attractions of Christchurch, Queenstown, Mount Cook and Dunedin.

Relax and unwind, enjoy golf, fishing, horse trekking, discover unique Maori rock art, interesting geological features, visit Oamaru with its penguin colonies and historic Victorian architecture.

Sympathetically restored in classic Victorian style, using quality imported period wallpapers and fabrics (William Morris designs), a combination of antiques and collectibles with original New Zealand art creates a home that will delight the visitor.

Four large individually decorated bedrooms are complemented with luxury ensuite bathrooms.
The homestead is centrally heated throughout.

Play the baby grand piano in the elegant drawing room, relax with refreshments in the warm glow of an open fire, or read in the shade of wide verandahs.

Dining is the special event of the evening, an experience not to be missed.
